Canine Vaccines s Distemper A paramyxovirus that affects the respiratory, digestive and nervous systems. Hepatitis An adenovirus that causes disease of the liver, respiratory system, blood and lymph systems, kidneys and eyes. Leptospirosis Two spirochete bacteria types affecting kidneys, blood, liver lungs and intestines. Parainfluenza Virus One of the causes of "kennel cough," a canine respiratory disease syndrome. Parvovirus Caronavirus This virus did not exist in dogs prior to 1978. Puppies may have a heart infection, or as in older dogs may develop signs of sudden gastrointestinal disease. Caronavirus This is a less serious gastrointestineal disease causing diarrhea. It becomes serious when Parvovirus and Corona virus affect a dog at the same time. BordetellaLyme This is one of five diseases called Kennel Cough. Dogs boarding in kennels should be vaccinated. Lyme Disease Is transmitted by the deer tick and can infect both pets and their owners. Dogs living in woorded areas should be vaccinated. Rabies Virus Dogs and cats are both vaccinated against rabies. The virus causes death due to nervous system and brain involvement. The disease may be transmitted to humans or their pets when bitten by a baries infected animal, or through contamination of open wounds, a fresh abrasion,or scratch or the eyes with saliva containing the rabies virus. Heartworm Disease A blood test is required to diagnose heartworm disease in your dog. Symptoms of heartworm disease include coughing, weakness and heart failure. This disease is caused by a six-to twelve inch worm that lives in the right side of the heart. The disease, transmitted from dog to dog by mosquitos, is becoming a serious problem in the U.S. Our area is experiencing an increase in cases. We recommend yearly check for heart worms.
